Health Ministry Shuts Down Unregistered Clinics in Kathmandu Valley And Other Cities

Department of Drug Administration under Nepal Health Ministry has shut down more than dozen of unregistered health clinics operating in Kathmandu valley and will shutdown more in coming days. Main target of this operation is sealed off medical centers and pharmacies that don’t have government approved license to open the business.

Hundreds of medical pharmacies are currently doing business in Kathmandu valley and other major cities. There is no record to show how many of them have proper registration or cleared the dues. So they started inspecting medical shops, pharmacies and centers operating in major cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar and Nepalgunj. At one point Department of Drug Administration said they don’t have enough manpower to go on a field inspection. Even with a minimum manpower they started the inspection and found many medical centers that are running without any registration and ones who haven’t cleared off dues.

Nepal Health Minister Gagan Thapa is taking the initiation with the help of Department of Drug Administration. He is planning to do more inspection in other major cities.
